North Kivu and Ituri: MONUSCO Reinforces Civilian Protection Amid Escalating Violence

Kinshasa, DRC - Since early November 2025, MONUSCO peacekeepers have intensified their efforts to protect civilians in North Kivu and Ituri, conducting regular patrols, often jointly with the FARDC (Armed Forces of the Democratic Republic of Congo), to deter armed groups and strengthen local security.

According to Colonel Charles Idjiwa, an aerial reconnaissance mission was carried out on November 21 in the Mavivi-Mayangose Forest-Nyaleke triangle, in Beni, to improve intelligence gathering and coordination with the Congolese army.

In Ituri, a Nepalese civil engineering company rehabilitated 23 km of National Route 27, facilitating the movement of forces and civilians in sensitive areas.

In parallel, humanitarian and educational activities were organized in Bunia, benefiting nearly 500 students with educational games, hygiene awareness campaigns, and school supplies distribution, reinforcing the resilience of communities affected by the conflict.
