North Kivu: 18 Civilians Injured in Clashes Between AFC-M23 Rebels and Wazalendo Fighters
Rutshuru, November 11, 2025 - At least 18 civilians were injured on Tuesday, November 4, in Mashango, Rutshuru Territory (North Kivu), following violent clashes between AFC-M23 rebels and Wazalendo fighters from the Collective of Movements for Change (CMC/NYATURA).
Local sources reported that the victims, who were caught in crossfire while taking part in community work, were transported to Mwesso Referral Hospital in neighboring Masisi Territory for treatment.
The Bwito chiefdom, where the fighting occurred, remains mired in insecurity and mass displacement, with residents fleeing toward Mwesso, Birambizo, and Kanyabayonga.
This latest escalation further deepens the humanitarian crisis in eastern Democratic Republic of Congo, where ongoing clashes between armed groups continue to endanger civilians and strain relief efforts.
