Walikale, January 15, 2026 -Nine fighters from the AFC/M23 rebellion surrendered to the Wazalendo of the FPP/AP (Patriotic Forces for Peace/People's Army) on Monday, January 12, 2026, in Fatua, in the Munzoa area (Kisimba group), Walikale territory, North Kivu. According to security sources, the fighters came from the Lubero territory and said they were fleeing the suffering they endured within the rebellion. The fighters surrendered with five weapons. They are reportedly former FARDC soldiers captured during the fall of Goma. Military authorities, confirming the surrender, called on other compatriots still within rebel ranks to break away and continue to honor their oath to the nation. The surrendered fighters were handed over by the Wazalendo to the FARDC (Armed Forces of the Democratic Republic of Congo) in Fatua and are reportedly en route to Pinga.
