Nine AFC/M23 Fighters Surrender to Wazalendo
Kinshasa, February 16, 2026 - Chanjikiro, Kisimba group, North Kivu - Nine fighters from the AFC/M23 rebellion voluntarily surrendered to the Wazalendo (Volunteers for the Defense of the Homeland) on Saturday, February 15, in Chanjikiro, Banamukema area. The surrendering rebels handed over four AK-47 rifles to the VDP.
Local security sources reported that the former combatants were immediately transported to Pinga for processing and identification.
These surrenders are linked to increased military pressure by the Armed Forces of the Democratic Republic of Congo (FARDC), which has intensified drone strikes on key AFC/M23 positions around Pinga, including Mpety and Mindjendje, known as major logistical bases for the rebellion.
Security officials view these voluntary surrenders as a sign of the FARDC’s growing operational effectiveness in the Walikale territory.
