National Guard Intensifies Anti-Trafficking Operations with Focus on Terrorist Financing

Niamey, November 28, 2025 - November 5-12 - The National Guard carried out a series of coordinated operations targeting fuel trafficking networks that finance armed groups in the Tillabéri and Tahoua regions. During the week-long campaign, authorities arrested six individuals involved in sophisticated smuggling schemes, as well as a fake non-commissioned officer who had been operating undetected for several years using forged documentation.

The suspects were publicly presented in Niamey, highlighting the government’s enhanced intelligence capabilities and inter-agency coordination in dismantling the complex financial networks that sustain terrorist activity. Investigations revealed increasingly sophisticated trafficking methods, including the use of legitimate business fronts and the corruption of security personnel.
