Mozambique Recognizes Rwanda’s Role in Restoring Security in Cabo Delgado

MAPUTO, July 11, 2026 - Rwanda’s contribution to restoring peace and security in Mozambique’s Cabo Delgado Province was highlighted during celebrations marking Rwanda’s 32nd Liberation Day, with officials praising cooperation between the two countries’ security forces.

The ceremony, organized by the Rwandan Embassy in Mozambique, was held on July 9, 2026, at the AFECC Gloria Hotel and brought together around 400 participants, including senior Mozambican government officials, diplomats, representatives of international organizations, Rwandan nationals living in Mozambique, and friends of Rwanda.

Rwandan Ambassador to Mozambique Col. (Rtd) Donat Ndamage paid tribute to the Rwanda Patriotic Army (RPA) forces led by President Paul Kagame for their role in ending the liberation struggle and restoring dignity and equal rights for Rwandans.

He also expressed appreciation to Mozambique’s ruling FRELIMO party for its support to Rwandans during the liberation period and in subsequent years, describing the historical ties between the two countries as a foundation for current cooperation.

Ambassador Ndamage highlighted the security partnership between Rwanda and Mozambique, particularly the joint efforts by their armed forces to restore stability in Cabo Delgado since Rwanda deployed forces to the province in July 2021.

Mozambique’s Minister of Education, Samaria dos Anjos Filemon Tovela, praised Rwanda’s achievements in promoting unity, reconciliation, economic development, and social progress.

She also recognized the role played by Rwandan and Mozambican forces in improving security conditions in Cabo Delgado, a province that has faced years of attacks by armed groups.

“Mozambique is committed to strengthening cooperation with Rwanda in the areas of security, trade, investment, culture and other sectors for the common good,” Minister Tovela said.

The event also highlighted the broader partnership between Rwanda and Mozambique, which extends beyond security cooperation to include economic, diplomatic, and social ties.
