More Than 60 Suspects Arrested in Security Crackdown in Ngoma District
NGOMA, July 5, 2026 - Rwandan police have arrested more than 60 people during security operations in Ngoma District targeting suspected criminals involved in violent crime, illegal mining, drug trafficking, and other activities linked to public insecurity.
The coordinated operations were carried out on July 3 in Kibungo and Rukumberi sectors with the support of local residents. In Kibungo Sector, dozens of suspects were arrested in Mahango, Gahima, Karenge, and Cyasemakamba cells on allegations including violent crime, theft, and the sale of marijuana. Additional arrests were made in connection with other suspected criminal activities.
In Rukumberi Sector, police arrested 27 suspects in Gituza and Ntovi cells, including individuals accused of illegal mineral trading, robbery, trafficking illicit alcohol known as kanyanga, and possession or use of marijuana. Authorities also reported seizing 133 kilograms of cigarettes during the operation.
Police said the crackdown followed complaints from residents about rising insecurity and emphasized that operations against criminal networks would continue. Authorities also urged the public to cooperate with law enforcement by reporting criminal activities and avoiding involvement in illegal mining, drug abuse, and the trade of illicit alcohol.
