Mocímboa da Praia Residents Thank Rwandan Forces for Restoring Security
Kigali, December 9, 2025 - MOCÍMBOA DA PRAIA, Mozambique - Residents of Mocímboa da Praia in Cabo Delgado Province have publicly thanked the Rwandan Armed Forces (RDF) for restoring peace and security after years of terrorist violence. The tribute came during a public concert organized by local authorities and youth groups to celebrate the return of stability.
The RDF, deployed to Mozambique in 2021 under a bilateral security cooperation agreement, played a key role in combating terrorist groups that had displaced civilians and disrupted daily life. Following military operations, residents gradually returned home, economic activities resumed, and a second phase focused on training Mozambican security forces.
In a message shared on the Rwanda Defence Forces’ X account on December 6, 2025, the RDF confirmed that more than 300 residents and local leaders attended the event. Speaking on behalf of the Rwandan forces, ACP Bertin Mutezintare reaffirmed Rwanda’s commitment to continued cooperation and urged youth involvement in supporting security and development efforts.
Since their deployment, the Rwanda Defence Forces and the Rwanda National Police have significantly weakened terrorist networks across several districts. On November 29, 2025, the RDF also donated sports equipment to local youth to strengthen ties between security forces and communities.
Mozambican President Daniel Francisco Chapo, who recently inaugurated Rwandan security units in Ancuabe District, praised their collaboration with Mozambican forces, calling it essential to defeating terrorism. He stressed that terrorism is a global threat requiring unity, cooperation, and sustained joint action to ensure lasting peace and development.
