Medicine Plane Allegedly Shot Down In Minembwe Amid Wider Kivu Fighting

By Amina Kabasele2 min read

Minembwe, August 27, 2026 - A civilian aircraft carrying medicine and food was allegedly shot down while landing in the Bikuba area of Minembwe, raising fresh concerns over humanitarian access in South Kivu.

The MRDP-Twirwaneho condemned the incident after an EJVM+ visit to the area. The aircraft was described as transporting medical supplies and food, making the alleged attack significant for isolated communities already exposed to insecurity and shortages.

The AFC/M23 also accused the FARDC coalition of simultaneous attacks using drones and heavy weapons in Minembwe, Walungu and Masisi. The allegations point to continued escalation across multiple fronts in the Kivus.

For investors and policymakers, the incident reinforces the operational risks in eastern DRC, where insecurity can disrupt transport routes, humanitarian logistics and broader stabilization efforts.
