Bamako, April 2, 2026 - The Malian Armed Forces have announced the neutralization of more than fifty suspected militants during an operation in the Ségou region, according to a statement from the military General Staff. The announcement stated that the operation followed a reconnaissance mission carried out on April 1, 2026, during which forces identified a training camp belonging to an armed group in a wooded area approximately 20 kilometers north of Markala. Following the discovery, the Malian Armed Forces (Malian Armed Forces) reportedly launched an intervention against the site, which the army described as being used by an armed terrorist group. The military indicated that the operation resulted in the neutralization of more than fifty individuals, though no independent verification of the figures has been provided. The General Staff did not immediately release additional details regarding potential losses on the military side or the identity of those targeted. The operation comes amid sustained security operations in central Mali, where armed groups remain active despite ongoing counterterrorism efforts.
