Malian Army Kills Ten Terrorists and Recovers Stolen Livestock in Markala
Bamako, October 8, 2025 - On October 2, the Malian Armed Forces (FAMa) conducted a successful counterterrorism operation in Markala, Ségou region, killing around ten militants and recovering livestock stolen from local communities.
According to an official statement from the army’s General Staff, the operation was launched following intelligence reports indicating the presence of armed groups in possession of animals taken from residents of three nearby villages.
The military released footage showing weapons, motorcycles, and other equipment seized from the neutralized assailants. Officials said the operation disrupted one of several networks financing terrorist activities through cattle theft - a practice increasingly used by armed groups to sustain their logistics and operations in central Mali.
