Mali Signs Performance Contracts to Strengthen Hospital Governance and Care Quality
Bamako, April 20, 2026 - Mali has taken a significant step toward improving the performance of its healthcare system with the introduction of performance contracts between the State and public health facilities.
The signing ceremony, presided over by the Minister of Health and Social Development, Colonel-Major Assa Badiallo Touré, formalizes a new framework aimed at enhancing hospital governance, accountability, and service delivery.
Under these agreements, healthcare facilities commit to specific performance targets related to the quality of care, management efficiency, and financial transparency. The contracts will run for a one-year period and will be monitored and evaluated by the National Hospital Evaluation Agency (ANEH).
Officials say the initiative is designed to reinforce results-based management within the health sector, ensuring that institutions are better equipped to meet the needs of the population.
The ceremony also featured the official handover of logistical resources to support healthcare delivery in the field. A total of 27 vehicles, including ambulances, along with 121 motorcycles, were distributed to strengthen operational capacity, particularly in remote and underserved areas.
The acquisition of this equipment was financed through the national budget, with additional support from the African Development Bank (AfDB) and the Vaccine Alliance (GAVI).
Authorities подчеркнули that these combined efforts aim to improve access to healthcare services while promoting efficiency and accountability across the system, as Mali continues its broader reforms in the health sector.
