Bamako, March 13, 2026 - Thirty-one children of tanker truck drivers killed in terrorist attacks have officially been registered as Wards of the Nation in Mali, receiving their identity cards and bank accounts during a ceremony at the Prime Minister’s Office on Friday. The event was chaired by Prime Minister Abdoulaye Maïga and attended by the Ministers of Health and Social Development, Labor, Public Service and Social Dialogue, and Transport and Infrastructure. In a departure from the usual schedule, which typically sees such ceremonies held in October under the President of the Transition, these children were registered and provided their cards ahead of time, in recognition of the government’s commitment to supporting families affected by terrorism. The initiative aims to provide financial support and social protection to children who lost their parents in violent attacks, reinforcing the state’s efforts to care for victims of insecurity and their families.
