Mali: Kal-Akal Denounces New Ethnic Cleansing in Timbuktu Region (November 25-27, 2025)
Bamako, December 3, 2025 - Following the violence between November 25 and 27, 2025, the Kidal-based human rights organization Kal-Akal issued a damning statement denouncing a new "ethnic cleansing" in the Timbuktu region.
According to the organization, a joint patrol of the Malian army and Africa Corps conducted a series of deadly operations in localities including Goundam, Gargando, and Bintagoungou, resulting in numerous casualties, abductions, and significant material damage. Kal-Akal asserts that the victims are primarily civilians targeted because of their ethnicity.
Villages such as Amarnane, Nijhaltate, and Taroma saw mutilated bodies, wounded women and children, and people abducted to unknown locations
Destruction of water points, tents, and pastures, worsening the humanitarian situation in an already insecure region
Immediate protection of civilians and safe humanitarian access
Continued documentation of abuses to hold perpetrators accountable
For Kal-Akal, the stability of the region depends on justice, transparency, and protection of vulnerable communities.
