Mali | JNIM Continues Attacks Amid Fuel Shortages and Insecurity

Bamako, January 18, 2026 - JNIM jihadists continue to destabilize Mali, targeting both Malian forces and supply routes.

On January 7, JNIM claimed responsibility for targeting a Malian army vehicle with a remote-controlled explosive device between Bougouni and Kolondiéba, in the Sikasso region.

Earlier, on January 8, JNIM reported ambushing a patrol of militias allied with the Malian army near Kologoutouma, in the Ségou region.

Fuel convoys and urban supply chains remain at risk, aggravating shortages in Bamako, where the national airline Sky Mali canceled several flights due to scarce fuel supplies and logistical disruptions.

The capital faces power outages, restricted mobility, and ongoing threats from armed groups at its main access points, including Fana, Kassela, Zantiguila, Kita, and Bougouni. Sky Mali is working to reschedule affected flights, while residents struggle with daily disruptions and insecurity.
