Mali | JNIM Conducts Ambushes on Pro-Government Militias in Ségou
Ségou, January 8, 2026 - The JNIM insurgent group announced two ambushes against militias allied with the Malian army in the Ségou region on Thursday evening, January 8, 2026. The attacks took place near Togolougoura and Kologoutouma.
While casualty figures have not been disclosed, these incidents underline the persistent threat posed by JNIM to pro-government forces and local security in central Mali.
Security analysts warn that such coordinated attacks against government-aligned militias demonstrate JNIM’s growing operational reach and the ongoing challenges faced by Malian authorities in maintaining control over rural areas.
