Mali | JNIM Ambushes Pro-Government Militias in Ségou
Ségou, January 8, 2026 - The JNIM insurgent group announced that it ambushed a patrol of militias allied with the Malian army near Togolougoura, in the Ségou region, on the evening of Thursday, January 8, 2026.
The attack highlights the ongoing instability and persistent insurgent activity across central Mali, where JNIM continues to target both military and pro-government forces. No immediate casualty figures have been released, but such incidents contribute to growing concerns about security gaps in the region.
This follows recent clashes in northern Mali, including ISIS engagements against JNIM near Doro in Timbuktu and Ossadja in Gao, indicating continued armed factional conflicts in Mali between jihadist groups and pro-government forces.
