Mali-Ghana Corridor: New Agreement Aims to Boost Trade and Transport Efficiency

Bamako, April 21, 2026 - Mali and Ghana have taken a significant step toward strengthening regional trade links with the signing of a memorandum of understanding between the Malian Shippers’ Council and the Ghana Shippers Authority.

The agreement was concluded in Bamako following a two-day working visit by a Ghanaian delegation, during which both parties held discussions focused on improving cooperation in transport and logistics.

The memorandum establishes a framework for bilateral collaboration aimed at enhancing the efficiency of the transport chain along the Ghana-Mali corridor, a key route for trade between the two countries.

Under the agreement, both institutions committed to a series of measures designed to facilitate smoother movement of goods and improve coordination among stakeholders. These include the exchange of information related to international trade, the conduct of joint studies on shared priorities, and mutual support for transport operators and users in both countries.

The partners also agreed to work together to ensure fair access to goods for carriers, in line with existing regulations, and to develop effective monitoring systems for freight transport along the corridor.

Officials say the initiative is expected to strengthen trade flows, reduce logistical bottlenecks, and support economic integration between Mali and Ghana.

The agreement reflects ongoing efforts by West African countries to improve connectivity and streamline cross-border trade as part of broader regional integration strategies.
