Mali Faces Security Collapse Amid Military Junta Rule
Mali, February 2, 2026 - The military junta in Mali is facing a severe security crisis, with jihadist groups reportedly taking advantage of the government’s inability to protect civilians in the south and west of the country.
According to local reports, these armed groups have established agreements with hundreds of villages across the Ségou, Mopti, and Kita regions, while the army struggles to ensure safety even on the outskirts of the capital.
Observers warn that the situation is extremely critical, emphasizing the urgent need for the return to democracy and the end of the Goïta regime, which has concentrated power indefinitely, following the self-proclamation of the junta leader as general with “indefinite” authority.
