Mali | 14th Anniversary of Azawad Liberation Operations Commemorated in Kidal
Kidal, January 17, 2026 - The inhabitants of Azawad, including civilians and military personnel, commemorated the 14th anniversary of the launch of Azawad liberation operations on Saturday, January 17, 2026, in the town of Tin Zawatine. These operations originally began on January 17, 2012. The commemorations occur amid claims by the military junta in Bamako of a so-called “restoration of national sovereignty” or “recovered sovereignty”, which is officially celebrated on January 14, 2026.
