Kinshasa and Luanda Establish Joint Defense and Security Commission

February 15, 2026 - The Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) and Angola signed an agreement in Luanda establishing a Joint Defense and Security Commission, following two days of meetings between security and defense experts from both countries. The agreement, signed by the respective Ministers of the Interior and Security, aims to enhance bilateral security cooperation and strengthen coordination along the shared border. Both countries emphasized the importance of regular information sharing and scheduled meetings between military and police commands to address cross-border threats. Deputy Prime Minister Jacquemain Shabani and his Angolan counterpart, Manuel Gomes, also addressed the issue of Rwandan aggression in eastern DRC, condemning the use of force to seize power and highlighting the need to respect democratic principles for regional stability. Experts from both nations praised the political commitment of President Félix Tshisekedi and the Angolan President in reinforcing fraternal ties and fostering cooperation between their peoples. This joint commission marks a strategic step in addressing security challenges and reinforcing peace and stability along the DRC-Angola border.
