Kayes, Mali - JNIM Claims Control of Sandaré Army Barracks Amid Coordinated Attack
Kayes, December 26, 2025 - JNIM announced that it had taken full control of a Malian army barracks in Sandaré, located in the Kayes region.
The Malian Armed Forces (FAMa) reported that the assault was carried out by a coordinated armed group comprising JNIM, the Azawad Liberation Front (FLA), and Katibat Ansar Dine of Macina (KAEM). The attack began at 2:02 p.m. and targeted the Sandaré garrison.
According to a statement from the Chief of Staff of the Malian Armed Forces (CEMEGA):
“Faced with the vigorous response of the Malian Armed Forces, the enemy attempted to retreat, leaving behind dead, wounded, and equipment.”
The incident highlights the persistent threat posed by organized extremist groups in the Kayes region, despite military efforts to secure key installations. Local authorities are reportedly assessing the damage and casualties from the engagement.
