Kigali, November 12, 2025 - Rwandan police in Kamonyi District have arrested six individuals, including five men and one woman, for allegedly carrying traditional weapons and committing theft and other acts threatening public security. The arrests took place during the night of November 1-2, 2025, in Gihinga Cell, Gacurabwenge Sector, with the assistance of local residents and authorities.
CIP Kamanzi Hassan, National Police Spokesperson for the Southern Province, told IGIHE that the suspects were primarily involved in livestock theft and housebreaking, armed with knives, machetes, axes, and other implements.
“Those arrested were found with some of the animals they had stolen, including 15 chickens and six rabbits,” CIP Kamanzi said. “They are now all detained at the Gacurabwenge Police Station, and the Criminal Investigation Department has begun tracking down others involved.”
CIP Kamanzi also urged residents to abandon criminal activities, warning that the police will prosecute and punish anyone involved in acts that threaten security and public peace.
He praised the community members who continue to cooperate with law enforcement by providing timely information and called on others to follow their example, emphasizing that maintaining security is a shared responsibility.
