Kabambare, Kasongo, and Shabunda: Wazalendo Linked to 68 Murders in Three Months

By Sarah Ndaya2 min readFrançais

Between August and November 2025, at least 68 murders were attributed to fighters claiming allegiance to Wazalendo in the territories of Kabambare and Kasongo (Maniema province), as well as Shabunda (South Kivu), according to Walubangi Katuta Albert, administrator of Kabambare, who raised the alarm on Friday, November 14.

The most recent incident, occurring about ten days ago, involved a merchant shot dead, mistakenly identified as a member of M23. Local authorities denounce the impunity enjoyed by these militiamen and are calling for a joint intervention by the FARDC (Armed Forces of the DRC) from the affected provinces to protect the population.

The community is also urging the central government and provincial authorities to strengthen security and restore peace in these territories, which have been severely impacted by Wazalendo’s violence.
