JNIM Targets Malian Army Patrol in Sikasso
Sikasso, February 8, 2026 - The Group for the Support of Islam and Muslims (JNIM) announced that it attacked a Malian army patrol using two improvised explosive devices (IEDs) between the towns of Koury and Koutiala, in the Sikasso region, on Sunday, February 8, 2026, at noon.
The attack underscores the persistent security challenges in southern Mali and the ongoing threat posed by armed extremist groups.
