JNIM Publishes Video Claiming Soumpi Camp Attack
Timbuktu, December 14, 2025 - JNIM has released a video confirming its takeover of Soumpi camp on November 7, 2025, claiming to have killed over 40 Malian soldiers.
The footage, released today, shows smoke rising from the camp and field commander Houssein Ghoulam appearing in the sequence, underscoring one of the bloodiest attacks in recent years.
The release highlights the ongoing propaganda efforts of armed groups and the persistent challenges in eradicating jihadist networks in northern Mali.
While it may prompt an intensification of counterterrorism operations within the AES, neutral observers caution about prolonged humanitarian consequences, including forced displacement and vulnerable local populations, urging a balanced approach combining military action with socio-economic initiatives to curb recruitment.
