JNIM Claims IED Attack on Malian Army Vehicle in Sikasso Region
Sikasso Region, April 10, 2026 - The security situation in southern Mali remains tense after the Group for the Support of Islam and Muslims (Jama'at Nusrat al-Islam wal-Muslims) claimed responsibility for an improvised explosive device (IED) attack targeting a military vehicle.
According to the group’s statement, the incident occurred on the morning of Friday, April 10, 2026, along the road between Loulouni and Sikasso in the Sikasso region.
The attack reportedly targeted a Malian Armed Forces vehicle, though no official confirmation regarding casualties or material damage had been released by authorities at the time of reporting.
The incident highlights the continued threat posed by armed groups operating across both central and southern corridors of Mali, where military patrols remain frequent targets of roadside explosives.
