JNIM Claims IED Attack on Malian Army Patrol in Ségou Region
Ségou, March 29, 2026 - The security situation in central Mali remains volatile after the Group for the Support of Islam and Muslims (Jama'at Nusrat al-Islam wal-Muslimin) claimed responsibility for an improvised explosive device (IED) attack targeting a Malian army patrol.
The incident reportedly occurred between Markala and Siribala in the Ségou region on Sunday afternoon, March 29, 2026. According to the group’s statement, the device struck a patrol of the Malian Armed Forces in transit along the corridor.
No independent verification of casualties or material damage was immediately available, and authorities from Mali had not released an official statement at the time of reporting.
The attack underscores the continuing threat posed by armed groups in central Mali, where military convoys and patrols remain frequent targets of roadside explosives and ambushes.
