JNIM Captures Dioïla Prefect on Fana-Dioïla Road
Ségou, February 15, 2026 - The Group for the Support of Islam and Muslims (JNIM) announced the capture of a Malian army officer, identified as the prefect of Dioïla, on the afternoon of February 14, 2026, along the Fana-Dioïla road in the Ségou region, near Bamako.
The abduction occurred in an area frequently targeted by armed attacks, according to information released by the group.
A Malian security source confirmed that search operations are underway to locate the abducted official. At this stage, no official statement has been released by the Malian authorities.
The incident highlights the persistent threat of armed groups to government officials and the fragile security situation near the capital.
