JNIM Ambush Near Hombori Kills Six Malian Soldiers
Mopti, February 15, 2026 - The Group for the Support of Islam and Muslims (JNIM) claimed responsibility for an ambush on February 12, 2026, near Hombori in the Mopti region, targeting elements of the Malian army and allied militias.
According to the group, six Malian soldiers were killed, and a military vehicle, several heavy and medium weapons, and other equipment were seized. JNIM also reported the destruction of another military vehicle during the operation.
The attack underscores the ongoing threat posed by armed extremist groups in central Mali and highlights the vulnerability of government forces in the region.
