JNIM Ambush in Kayes Kills 5 Soldiers, Seizes Equipment
Kayes, January 18, 2026 - The Group for the Support of Islam and Muslims (JNIM) claimed responsibility for an ambush on a Malian military convoy between Fasso and Béma in the Kayes region on Sunday. According to the group, the attack killed five soldiers, seized weapons, ammunition, and equipment, and destroyed two armored vehicles, highlighting the continuing security challenges in the area.
