Ituri: 4,000 civilians take refuge around the MONUSCO base in Gina amid fighting between the FARDC and CODECO

Since the end of September 2025, around 4,000 civilians, including nearly 1,950 women and 700 children, have taken refuge around the MONUSCO base in Gina, in the territory of Djugu, Ituri, fleeing intensified clashes between the Armed Forces of the DRC (FARDC), CODECO militiamen and the Convention for Popular Revolution (CRP). Faced with gunfire in the town of Tcha-Toba, MONUSCO reinforced its patrols with armoured vehicles to secure access and protect the population, evacuating three wounded people to Bunia for specialised care.

The rapid intervention of the peacekeepers made it possible to limit human losses and secure civilians in an area regularly exposed to violence.
