Ituri: 311 Ex-Combatants Reintegrated in Miala to Strengthen Local Peace
Miala, Ituri, DRC - On Friday, 24 October 2025, 311 ex-combatants and community members were socio-economically reintegrated in Miala, near Bunia, under the Disarmament, Demobilisation and Reintegration (DDR) programme supported by MONUSCO and implemented by the NGO Peace Mwangaza.
The participants received agricultural tools, including spades, pickaxes, and seeds, enabling them to engage in collective activities aimed at financial autonomy and community cohesion. They are also involved in the rehabilitation of agricultural access roads while awaiting their first harvests.
The initiative, which encompasses over 900 people in Telega, Tsere, Tchomia, and Miala, provides a sustainable alternative to armed violence and encourages active militiamen to join the peace process, reinforcing stability in the Ituri region.
