IOM warns of “deadliest season” for migrants crossing Red Sea route
Obock, March 26, 2026 - The International Organization for Migration (IOM) has reiterated warnings over heightened dangers on the Djibouti-Yemen migration route due to strong seasonal winds.
Officials described the current period as the “deadliest season,” noting that rough sea conditions significantly increase the risk of shipwrecks and loss of life.
The warning comes amid continued reports of overcrowded boats attempting the perilous crossing despite worsening weather conditions.
