Ibrahim Dembélé, a teacher at the Saadou Ziwaza madrasa, was assassinated on Thursday evening around 6:45 p.m. by unidentified armed assailants near his school in the Dougoukoro neighborhood of Timbuktu.
In response to the killing, the local education authorities have suspended classes across the entire Léré district on Friday, November 21, as security concerns mount.
The attack highlights the ongoing threats to civilians and educators in northern Mali, where insecurity continues to disrupt daily life and access to essential services. Authorities have not yet confirmed the identity or motive of the perpetrators.
Drone Strike Hits Nigerien Gold Miners in Kidal, Mali
Kidal, Mali - November 22, 2025 ; Early Saturday morning, a Malian military drone struck four Hausa gold miners of Nigerien nationality at a mining site in Djoumite, Abeïbara district. The incident occurred around 2 a.m., as the miners were reportedly attempting to reach the site to continue their work.
According to local sources, the attack left the miners critically injured. The motive behind the drone strike remains unclear, but such incidents have heightened fears among artisanal miners in northern Mali, who often work in remote areas under precarious and dangerous conditions.
Authorities have not yet issued an official statement regarding the strike, and local humanitarian organizations are reportedly assessing the situation to provide urgent assistance to the victims.
