Great Lakes: Germany and Belgium Pledge Over €80 Million to Address Humanitarian Crisis

Paris, France - At the international conference on the Great Lakes region held Thursday, October 30, 2025, Germany and Belgium announced combined financial support exceeding €80 million to respond to the ongoing humanitarian crisis, particularly in the Democratic Republic of Congo.

Germany committed €53.5 million over three years (2025-2027), while Belgium pledged €26.6 million for 2025 and €24.6 million for 2026. The funds are earmarked to improve access to humanitarian aid, protect civilians, and strengthen the resilience of local communities affected by conflict and insecurity.

Officials emphasized that these contributions reflect a shared commitment to promoting peace, stability, and sustainable development in a region grappling with complex security and humanitarian challenges.
