Flag Presentation to the United Sahel Force: Strengthening Regional Military Cooperation
Bamako, December 20, 2025 - General Assimi Goïta presided over the flag presentation ceremony for the United Force of the Alliance of Sahel States (UF-AES), symbolizing the shared commitment of Mali, Burkina Faso, and Niger to defend their territories with full sovereignty.
The UF-AES is tasked with coordinating counter-terrorism operations and responding to cross-border threats, marking a significant step toward military integration in the Sahel. This initiative paves the way for joint exercises, improving coordination in the fight against terrorism and enhancing regional stability within the AES.
However, persistent logistical and financial constraints could impede the force’s effective deployment amid escalating security challenges.
