Sange, South Kivu, January 30, 2026 - Five civilians were killed in a bomb attack at a market in Sange center, South Kivu Province, the AFC/M23 coalition reported. The coalition claimed that the attack was carried out by armed groups supported by the DRC government. According to AFC/M23 spokesman Lawrence Kanyuka, the attack occurred on the evening of January 29, 2026, at 6:30 p.m., when a grenade was deliberately thrown into the crowded market, killing five innocent civilians, including women, and injuring several others. The coalition also accused DRC government forces of firing on a National Railway Company (SNCC) vessel at the port and kidnapping two Banyamulenge women, labeling these actions as part of ongoing war crimes in the region.
