FDLR Burns Village in Walikale, Killing Four

By Amina Kabasele2 min readFrançais

The FDLR armed group has burned down an entire village in Walikale territory, North Kivu province, in eastern DRC, killing at least four people and forcing dozens to flee.

The attack occurred on the morning of December 15, 2025, in the Tuonane area of Waloa Loanda, after an FDLR fighter identifying himself as “General Mudayongwa” ordered residents to leave the area. Locals rejected his claim that he had purchased the land from local authorities, prompting the assault and the destruction of all homes.

Clashes also erupted between the FDLR and Mai Mai Kifuafua fighters, leaving two Mai Mai combatants dead after exchanges involving light and heavy weapons.

The incident comes despite a Rwanda-DRC peace agreement signed in June 2025, which called for the dismantling of the FDLR. A UN experts’ report released on December 8 said the group remains active and accused Congolese forces of continued cooperation with the militia.
