FARDC Repel AFC/M23 Offensive in Ndurumo
Goma, April 17, 2026 - The Armed Forces of the Democratic Republic of Congo (FARDC), backed by Wazalendo fighters, have repelled an offensive by AFC/M23 rebels in the locality of Ndurumo, in Masisi territory, amid ongoing tensions along a key strategic axis.
The clashes occurred in an area linking Pinga to Lukweti toward Nyabiondo, a corridor considered vital for both civilian movement and military operations. According to local sources, AFC/M23 elements had sought to establish a position in Ndurumo, near Lukweti, with the apparent aim of cutting off this route and isolating surrounding communities.
In response, FARDC and allied forces launched coordinated operations beginning on April 15, leading to intense fighting in the area. The offensive was ultimately contained and repelled, preventing the establishment of a blockade along the axis.
Despite this development, concerns remain over a possible regrouping of rebel elements in nearby forested areas, which are difficult to access and monitor. Residents in the region continue to express fear of renewed clashes.
Observers on the ground have called for reinforced security measures to secure the corridor and ensure the continued movement of civilians and goods in this part of North Kivu, where instability has persisted for several months.
