FARDC Launches Drone Strikes on AFC/M23 Positions in Mpety
Walikale February 11, 2026 - The Armed Forces of the Democratic Republic of Congo (FARDC) carried out drone airstrikes on AFC/M23 rebel positions around Mpety, in the Kisimba area of Walikale territory, North Kivu, on Wednesday. Local administrative and traditional sources reported that the first explosions were heard around 1 p.m., triggering panic among villagers and prompting several families to flee into the bush. These strikes come just 48 hours after drone operations targeting rebel positions in Mindjendje, near Mpety in the Banakindi area, which reportedly caused multiple injuries among AFC/M23 fighters, according to local sources. The casualty figures from Wednesday’s strikes remain unknown. The Pinga-Mpety-Mindjendje axis has been a flashpoint for violent clashes between the FARDC, supported by Wazalendo forces, and the AFC/M23 rebels over the past several months. The area’s strategic importance has made it a key target for both sides, fueling ongoing instability. According to military sources, the current operations are part of the FARDC’s broader strategy to weaken AFC/M23 military capabilities and regain control of key positions around Pinga, a locality considered a security stronghold in this part of Walikale territory.
