FARDC Honors Colonel Mamadou Ndala, 12 Years After His Assassination

The Armed Forces of the Democratic Republic of Congo (FARDC) paid tribute on January 2 to Colonel Mamadou Ndala, twelve years after he was assassinated in an ambush while traveling to Eringeti in North Kivu.

On this solemn day of remembrance, the FARDC reaffirmed its determination to continue the fight for which Colonel Ndala sacrificed his life: building a united, sovereign, and peaceful Democratic Republic of Congo.

“Honor and glory to General Mamadou Ndala. The grateful nation will never forget you. Long live the FARDC, long live the Democratic Republic of Congo!” the FARDC wrote on its official account.

At the time of his death, Colonel Ndala was leading military operations against the Ugandan Allied Democratic Forces (ADF) and other armed groups active in the Beni region. His courage, loyalty, and strategic leadership earned him the status of a national hero and an emblematic figure of supreme sacrifice in defense of the homeland.

The FARDC highlighted his enduring legacy:

Determination in the face of the enemy, inspiring generations of Congolese soldiers.

“His legacy remains alive in the hearts of Congolese soldiers and the entire nation,” the army concluded, paying homage to a commander whose life exemplified heroism and dedication.

This 12th anniversary commemoration comes as the Congolese army continues to face ongoing clashes with AFC/M23 rebels, who are reportedly supported by the Rwandan army in eastern DRC.
