FARDC Forces Push Back M23 Near Uvira After Intense Clashes
Uvira, December 24, 2025 - Columns of M23 fighters, accompanied by elements of the Rwandan army, have retreated from Bangwe toward Luanga Hill, and further toward Kigongo, a strategic hill overlooking the first village past Uvira, following intense clashes with the Armed Forces of the DRC (FARDC) and allied Wazalendo forces.
The withdrawal comes after Wednesday’s fighting in and around Makobola 1, where rebels reportedly came under heavy fire from FARDC and Wazalendo units.
On Thursday morning, at around 8:00 a.m., FARDC conducted a strike on Lwangwa Hill, where several M23 elements were regrouping. Security sources indicate that several fighters were neutralized, and others captured during the joint FARDC-Wazalendo operations.
Currently, Makobola 1 and surrounding villages are under FARDC and Wazalendo control. The security situation remains fluid, and authorities continue to monitor developments closely.
