FARDC and AFC/M23 Clash in Mikumbi, Mungazi-Kashebere Road Closed
Walikale March 11, 2026 - Heavy clashes erupted Wednesday morning, March 11, in Mikumbi, located in the Luberike area of Walikale Territory, between the Armed Forces of the DRC (FARDC), supported by Wazalendo militia, and AFC/M23 rebels. The confrontation reportedly began around 9:00 a.m. after an attack by AFC/M23 forces on government positions. The exchange of fire has suspended traffic on the Mungazi-Kashebere road, a vital route in the region. Fighting continued in the vicinity of Mikumbi until early afternoon. Local authorities and security sources warned civilians to remain vigilant and avoid the area while the situation develops.
