FARDC Airstrikes Hit AFC/M23 Positions in Mindjendje, Walikale

Walikale North Kivu, January 30, 2026 - The Armed Forces of the Democratic Republic of Congo (FARDC) have continued their military operations against AFC/M23 rebels in Walikale territory, aiming to dismantle rebel positions and reduce their operational capacity in this part of North Kivu.

Following the repulsion of a rebel attack in Chanjikiro, the Congolese army, through its air force, carried out airstrikes on Thursday, January 29, 2026, targeting AFC/M23 positions in Mindjendje, near Mpety, within the Kisimba group.

Local administrative authorities reported that the strikes occurred in the early evening, around 4:00 p.m. local time, shortly after the clashes in Chanjikiro.

A FARDC drone was deployed during the operation to strike what security sources identified as a key rebel logistics base in the Pinga area. Significant material damage was reported at the targeted site.

These airstrikes follow similar operations in recent days against positions in Mindjendje and Mpety, reflecting an intensification of FARDC military efforts in Walikale territory.
