Equity Bank Rwanda Reassures Clients After Attempted Fraud Incident

Kigali, March 15, 2026 - Equity Bank Rwanda Plc has reassured customers that their funds remain secure following an attempted fraud involving suspicious money transfer activities detected on 15 March 2026.

In an official statement, the bank said its monitoring systems quickly identified unusual transactions, triggering immediate security protocols to contain the situation.

“Our systems continuously monitor irregular money transfers, and appropriate security measures were promptly activated,” the statement said.

The bank confirmed that swift intervention enabled the recovery of most of the targeted funds within 24 hours, while investigations continue in collaboration with relevant authorities, including the Central Bank of Rwanda and security agencies.

Equity Bank emphasized that no customer funds were lost, adding that all banking operations remain normal. “Customer accounts are fully protected, and services continue without disruption,” the bank stated.

Ongoing Investigation and Security Measures

The institution reiterated its zero-tolerance policy on financial crime, highlighting ongoing efforts to strengthen cybersecurity systems, enhance transaction monitoring, and reinforce internal controls.

Customers and stakeholders have also been encouraged to report any suspicious activities through the bank’s confidential whistleblowing channels, as part of broader efforts to maintain transparency and accountability.
