Drone Strike on Al-Jabalain Hospital Kills 12 in Sudan’s White Nile State

Sudan, April 2, 2026 - A drone strike on a hospital in southern Sudan has killed at least 12 people, including two doctors, according to medical sources, in the latest attack on healthcare infrastructure amid the country’s ongoing conflict.

The strike targeted Al-Jabalain Hospital in Al-Jabalain, near the border with South Sudan. Victims reportedly included patients and medical staff present at the facility at the time of the attack.

The incident follows another drone strike a day earlier on a medical warehouse in Kosti, also in White Nile State, which left three people injured, including a pharmacist.

Local sources attributed the hospital attack to the Rapid Support Forces (RSF), though casualty figures varied, with some reports indicating slightly lower death tolls, including senior hospital personnel.

The attack is part of a broader pattern of violence targeting healthcare services. The World Health Organization has previously reported hundreds of attacks on medical facilities since the start of the war, resulting in significant loss of life and widespread damage to health infrastructure.

Other monitoring groups have also documented extensive violence against healthcare workers and facilities, citing hundreds of incidents ranging from direct attacks to obstruction of medical services.

Rights observers have condemned the continued targeting of hospitals and medical personnel, warning that such actions constitute violations of international humanitarian law.

White Nile State has seen a recent surge in drone strikes, with attacks hitting fuel stations, supply depots, and other civilian infrastructure in addition to healthcare facilities.

Regional authorities have visited affected sites in Kosti, Rabak, and Al-Jabalain, stating that such attacks would not deter efforts to maintain control and restore stability.

The increasing use of drones in the conflict has intensified concerns, as strikes increasingly affect civilian areas, including hospitals, energy infrastructure, and humanitarian assets.
