Drone Strike Destroys Vital UN Aid Supplies as Sudan Humanitarian Crisis Deepens

UNITED NATIONS, July 2, 2026 - A drone strike in Sudan has destroyed 50 tonnes of humanitarian supplies intended for vulnerable communities in South Kordofan, further worsening the challenges facing aid operations in the conflict-hit country.

The attack targeted a contracted humanitarian transport truck near Tendelti in White Nile State while it was carrying relief materials destined for Abu Jubeyha. The driver survived the incident, but the entire shipment was destroyed.

The destroyed supplies included thousands of blankets, water containers, kitchen equipment, sleeping mats, plastic sheets, and solar lamps, materials intended to support families affected by conflict and displacement.

Humanitarian officials warned that the loss of the shipment would leave thousands of civilians without essential assistance at a time when access to basic services remains severely limited across several regions of Sudan.

The incident occurred amid a wider escalation of violence involving increased drone activity and attacks on civilian areas. Additional drone strikes were reported in Kosti, White Nile State, causing civilian injuries and further damaging already fragile infrastructure.

Despite growing security risks, humanitarian organizations continue efforts to deliver emergency assistance where access remains possible. Recent operations have included the transport of medical supplies, including cholera response materials, to health facilities in South Kordofan to address rising disease outbreaks.

The United Nations has renewed calls on all parties to the conflict to protect civilians, safeguard humanitarian operations, and prevent attacks on essential infrastructure.

International partners have also been urged to increase financial support for relief operations as humanitarian needs continue to grow across Sudan.
