Kinshasa, February 5, 2026 - The Congolese government officially validated on Thursday the 2026 Strategy Roadmap aimed at securing recognition of genocides committed on Congolese soil. The adoption of the roadmap followed a harmonization meeting between officials from the National Fund for Victim Reparations (FONAREV) and the Inter-institutional Commission for Victim Assistance and Support for Reforms (CIA-VAR), chaired by Minister of Human Rights Samuel Mbemba. During the session, Minister Mbemba and his counterparts outlined planned actions at both national and international levels, including the drafting of a preliminary bill for the preservation and protection of memorial heritage linked to international crimes in the DRC and the suppression of genocide denial. The discussions also touched on the upcoming dialogue involving members of the Government, the National Assembly, the Senate, parliamentary committees, and the diplomatic corps accredited to the DRC. Minister Mbemba emphasized that the initiative seeks effective recognition by states and international organizations of genocides committed in the DRC by Rwanda, noting that such recognition has already been acknowledged by the African Commission on Human and Peoples' Rights.
