DRC: Nearly 25 Million People Facing Severe Food Insecurity
Kinshasa, November 11, 2025 - Nearly 25 million Congolese are currently facing severe food insecurity, according to the results of the 24th cycle of the Integrated Food Security Phase Classification (IPC) presented on Tuesday, November 4, 2025, by the Ministry of Agriculture in Kinshasa.
The report indicates that 24.8 million people were affected between September and December 2025, mainly in North Kivu, South Kivu, Tanganyika, and Ituri. It attributes the crisis to armed conflicts, mass displacement, flooding, and weak infrastructure, warning that conditions could further deteriorate in 2026.
Validated by Minister Mohindo Nzangi and supported by partners including UNICEF, WFP, FAO, and ACF, the report urges authorities to end conflicts, improve humanitarian access, and stabilize food and oil prices through social protection programs.
